Love Island Australia fans accuse show of racism in claims Cynthia is ‘ignored’

Monday night saw Love Island Australia return to ITV, as fans and new viewers alike tuned in to watch the juicy action unfold from the 2019 season, which is airing now in the UK.

Based in sun-soaked climates down under, a group of five girls and five boys entered the villa to see if they could find their match.

But in an awkward couple picking session that seemed to last a painfully long time, Cynthia, the only person of colour in the group, was repeatedly ignored.

Progressively getting more riled up, viewers angrily complained.

One person said: “I can’t watch this, the black girl is just being ignored.”

“She definitely is and it’s heartbreaking to watch,” another viewer replied.

A third wrote sadly: “That was awkward to watch because you just knew he wasn’t going to pick Cynthia even though Cynthia is hotter than Vanessa.”

“Nah this show is making me want to die lmao. I can’t take this second hand embarrassment. Cynthia sis, you know we’re not accepted on these shows ,” a fourth shared in solidarity.

A fifth said angrily: “Love Island always does the black girls so dirty no matter what country it’s in.”

While another viewer pleaded: “Cynthia: deserves better.”

“Annoys me every time how the POC never gets picked at the start,” one person then accused.

“Cynthia to win because they did her dirty,” another said, followed by: “Think Cynthia is going to find it tough in there… the vibes ain’t right so far.”

Others were left confused by the lack of people of colour in the show, with one viewer wondering: “Is the AU diversity team budget low because I’m not understanding the lack of diversity in this group.”

As the action got going, Cynthia took a liking to Maurice, who was coupled up with Jessie, and in a series of chats tried to gauge his feelings.

Unfortunately, Maurice admitted to the camera that he only had eyes for his partner Jessie, and he thought they were one of the “strongest couples in the villa”.

Later, as Cynthia attempted to say she wanted to get to know her fellow islander, Maurice refused to put her out of her misery and simply said they would “continue” later.

Will the pair’s chemistry ignite in the next episode?
